The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the majority of the NSW coast. A large southerly swell will start to affect the coast on Friday and continue to about Tuesday. There will be swell of up to 3 metres, with about 18 seconds between each major swell. The worst period on the south coast will be Sunday, and on the north coast Monday is likely to be the peak.
As occurred over recent weeks, westerly winds may make the ocean look 'clean' - combined with the long swell period, this could be dangerously deceptive for rock fishermen.
Check conditions on your part of the coast by going to the Bureau’s coastal weather forecasts immediately before heading out.
Stay home in rough weather!
Whenever you fish, choose a safe spot. Don’t fish alone, make sure you have non-slip shoes, wear a life jacket and never turn your back on the sea.
